Improve healing with plasma rich platelet injections

plasma rich platelet injection from North Hollywood Dentist

Plasma rich platelet injections (PRP) can accelerate bone or tissue growth and aid in healing after implant procedures. At Pacific Implant Group, we offer PRP therapy as a safe and effective way to ensure success of dental implants.

What is PRP?

PRP is a component of your blood that contains a high concentration of platelets. For decades, it has been used in medical settings to improve healing, but only in recent years has it been used in dental offices.

Platelets serve several purposes, including the formation of blood clots and the release of growth factors. Growth factors stimulate stem cells to generate new tissue, making it an excellent adjunct in dentistry.

Main uses for PRP in dentistry

Some of the main reasons we use PRP in our practice include:

  • To reduce the risk of infection.PRP can be used on wounds to reduce the risk of infection.
  • To speed up healing time.PRP promotes faster tissue regeneration which improves healing time and decreases the risk of pain or complications.
  • It’s safe and convenient. PRP uses platelets harvested from the patient’s own blood, which means there is no risk of disease transmission. Only a small amount of blood is needed to harvest the PRP.

How PRP works

Prior to receiving PRP therapy, the doctor will need to determine if you are a candidate. Patients who have blood clotting disorders cannot undergo PRP therapy. A small amount of blood is drawn and put into a centrifuge where the plasma is separated from the red blood cells. This process is repeated to extract the platelets.

After the procedure is complete and the wound is sutured, the PRP is applied to improve healing.
